I just fell down my steps. Oy. What made the whole thing particularly special was that my roommate and her boyfriend were sitting in the living room at the time, so they saw the whole thing, as I slid from upstairs into their view. Also, I grabbed onto the railing, with both hands, as I fell, so it was sort like the top half of me stayed on the first couple steps, while the bottom half of me kept going for 3 or 4 more. Very nice. The result is that I cut up my hands, but otherwise I think I'm unharmed. Granted, tomorrow I will probably have a different opinion, and a lovely bruise or two.

Tomorrow night I am going to an open house at Temple! Thus begins the great grad school search!

Also, I realize I write about TV entirely too much on lj (I do have a life! I swear!) BUT - American Idol is singing Elvis songs tonight, and Chris is doing "Suspicious Minds". I would be way, way more excited about this if Elliot was the one singing it, because I LOVE him, however, that is one of my all-time favorite songs, and I will be happy just to hear it. Yay. Although, I'm sort of afraid to bring this up at work tomorrow, as that is the song that I ended up on stage singing at my coworker's wedding... (But, in my defense, the reception had turned into karaoke long before that, and I was not alone on stage. It was "Suspicious Minds". I had to sing.)

EDIT:
Good Lord. I just reread a bunch of entries, including this one, and I have a serious problem with starting sentences with the word "So," or some type of transitional equivalent. My apologies.

I feel like I should pass along this info on the off chance that one of you cares...

"Deal or No Deal" (the new game show on NBC) is holding an open casting call at Dave & Buster's on Delaware Ave. on Thursday night. If you're unfamiliar with the show, it basically consists of people picking one of out 26 cases which hold various amounts of money (from $1 to $1 million), and then the "banker" offers them a deal to purchase their case. The deal is some type of average-ish amount based on what cases/values are remaining. If they don't take the deal, they have to pick like 5 of the other 25 cases to eliminate; if they eliminate the high values, then the banker's offer for their case goes down, if they eliminate the low values, it goes up.

Anyway, basically, I'd be awful at the show, because I'm incredibly risk averse and would much rather take, like, $10,000 that is a sure thing than risk losing it all for a shot at a million. So, they'd never pick me to be on the show anyway. However, the "good television" part of the show is that whoever is the contestant has 3 friends who sit on stage with them, who apparently have undue amounts of influence over this person and always encourage them to keep going, even though the person clearly is considering taking the money.... and I could totally be the friend!

So, my brother(s), potentially my coworker, and I are all going to check it out on Thursday night. We figure we can be each others' friends, although we're not sure if we need to bring our friends along at this point (if you apply via mail, you have to send in a video of yourself AND your friends, I assume so they can see how heavily you rely on them...). If anyone has always wanted to apply for a game show (apparently a life-long goal of my brother's), let me know - you can be our friend, too!

I have yet to be as inspired as pattiquest in regards to any graduate school application plans. I think I'm only applying to Temple, so that cuts down on the decision making and essay-writing time; however, I probably should stop thinking about it that way, right? Like, maybe focus on the studying and work I DO have to do? That can be my goal for next week - start the studying!

In the spirit of New Year's, I think that's my resolution - get into grad school. Well, that and join Netflix, which I finally accomplished, after talking about it for the past 6 months. I've never really watched a lot of movies, so I'm going to make an effort to sort of catch up on classic movies that everyone else in the world has seen. So, if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know! Unfortunately, Netflix also has an extensive TV on DVD collection, so my queue is currently filled with "Freaks and Geeks" and Buffy, both of which I've always wanted to watch. But eventually I'll get to the movies...

Hmm. This sort of clarifies the lack of motivation when it comes to studying, doesn't it?

January: At the request of mistresseditor, I want to share a little information on one of my favorite television shows - the Quacker Factory show on QVC.

February: I was scheduled to go to Puerto Rico for an audit the week of 2/21; this has been planned for a couple weeks, and before scheduling it, my manager discussed this a few times with the plant accountant in Puerto Rico.

May: I'm reading the TAR recap on TWoP (which has been up for awhile, so you may have already read it) and this line absolutely cracks me up... "In the cab, Ron frets that he thinks they're trailing by a bigger margin than before. You know what I think?
Mold!

So, what do you guys know about mold in basements?? How worried do I have to be?
I was taking stuff down to my basement last night, and saw some fairly large spots of mold on various things down there - an end table, part of a wooden platform the previous owner left, and the pipes. I mentioned this to my coworkers this morning, and they're pretty much convinced the house will have to be evacuated and that I've been inhaling mold spores and contaminating my lungs. And quite possibly the house will be condemned. And since it's a row home, actually the whole block will be condemned.
So, because I am somewhat of a hypochondriac, I've sort of convinced myself that this will happen and somehow the mold will be traced back to me. And all my neighbors will hate me. (Although, they won't be my neighbors after we all have to move out, so... their loss.) Then I emailed my dad for his advice and his response? That my brother's house has mold too, it's probably due to the humidity, don't worry about it.

Anyone else want to chime in?

However, we drove through 10 states during the trip (PA, DE, MD, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia - and DC), which is 1/5 of the country (or "10%!" as my friend Shannon announced, which... not so much.)
I can't believe I forgot to share this sooner, but when I was in Germany last week, the only station that I got in English was MTV, so I watched that quite frequently. One of the hit songs right now is this country-esque cover of "Hot in Herre". For the first 2 weeks, I would switch the channel when the video came on, because it's this awful cartoon-ish, (maybe) parody of cowboys, very "Dukes of Hazzard". And they're called "Bosshoss", and I assumed it was some German country song, and I wasn't interested. Then I finally listened to it, and it is awesomish. Check out the other songs on their CD...

http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007ZIYXS/qid=1122576615/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/028-9272036-9334909

Definitely NOT worth paying import CD prices for, but well worth a visit to iTunes.
I really don't have anything to write about, I just feel like posting something.

First, I'd like to say that "Lost" last night was awesome. ("Lost" the show on ABC, not "Lost" - "that comedy show about the Phillies" as my favorite tax director is telling everyone this morning...) And on a completely superficial note, Sawyer is quickly joining Sayid as my candidate for hottest castaway. Anyway, I am so glad we're finally finding out SOMETHING about the island.

In other television news, I am somewhat devastated at the news that "Joan of Arcadia" has been cancelled. Granted, the second season was sort of dumb, but in the last few episodes, especially the finale, they seemed to get back on track and the show was awesomeish again. And they finally set up this huge good vs. evil conflict, which will now be completely unresolved. Meanwhile, "7th Heaven" gets picked up for a 10th season - where is the justice in that??? Also, "Everwood" is moving to Thursdays, I believe, which I guess means it will be on opposite "The Apprentice"? It's like the television executives are conspiring to kill all my favorite shows!! Why???

Oh, thanks to Pattiquest's reminder, I voted on Tuesday. There was a surprising amount of people there; apparently the rest of the state got the memo that it was Election Day, and I was the only one out of the loop. But I have a dumb question... there's a guy in Jenkintown who is blind (a person with blindness?). He used to live across the street from me, he goes to my church, and I often see him walking home from the train station or running errands around town. So, as I was leaving the polling place, he was signing in. Now, there was a voting official accompanying him up to the booths, but... how does that work? I don't think the screens were in Braille - do they have Braille ballots somewhere? Or does someone read the candidates to him? I mean, I guess they know he lives in that ward, so they could prepare things in advance, but I never really thought about it before.

Also, there was no one on the ballot for Mayor of Jenkintown, for either party. Does this mean I could have written myself in, and stood a good chance of winning?

Guys, I planted flowers yesterday! I know it's pathetic, but I have never done any type of gardening before . I'm pretty much allergic to everything, and I tend to kill house plants due to extreme neglect anyway. And, I'm not really sure how long these flowers are going to last either, but for now, they look nice. My lawn, however, is a whole other story... it's about half grass, half... plants? I don't know what it is. It looks like at one point the garden went further out into the yard, but they let it get so overgrown that they gave up. Really, the entire lawn needs to be ripped up and reseeded. My lawn is approximately the size of maybe your average cubicle, so it's not like this would be a major project, but currently it's more time and money than this renter (with a history of plant-killing) really wants to invest. So, for now, I'm just going to mow down the other plants so that they at least resemble grass (well, in the sense that they are green), and hope that my neighbors will be too focused on the beautiful flowers to realize that the rest of the lawn looks like crap.
